Wayfinding system for Vlaamse Meesters op hun plek
Flemish masterworks have hung in the same churches, mansions, and museums for centuries. The network of over a hundred sites exists. The challenge was making it findable, without overwhelming the spaces that give the works their meaning.
Our spatial designers and graphic designers developed a modular wayfinding system for three distinct site types: religious sites, existing museum settings, and sites with multiple dispersed works. Following site visits, RAMP analyses, and stakeholder interviews, the team designed five signage archetypes, from a welcome board that triggers curiosity before visitors enter, to directional signs placed only at critical decision points, to artwork markers that identify individual works without competing with them.
Prototypes were tested at Hof van Busleyden, Huis Beaucarne, and Sint-Salvatorkerk. Visitor observations and exit interviews confirmed the system works. A rollout guide for the full network was delivered alongside print-ready files and production drawings.
